Solidering on with a smile.
Today marked one week to the day since the first time she threw up and she still has repeated bouts of diarrhea throughout the day. Up until this evening and some perseverence with fresh-baked blueberry muffins, she refused all solids without even considering putting them in her mouth, which is quite the opposite of before she got sick.
Fortunately we had a 9-month well-baby visit already scheduled for this afternoon and so we were able to check-in with the pediatrician on her condition. As expected, she told us that we just need to keep plugging along, doing what we're doing, keeping her hydrated, and monitoring her bowel movements to ensure no blood or mucus is in them.
All this sickness, however, has turned our firm 50th percentile child into a 9-month shrimp. She weighed in at just 17.4ozs which is 25% and fell back a bit in the height department at 27.25 inches, 45%. Honestly, I'm not confident the height is right because she was so busy screaming and squirming, there is no way that nurse was able to pinpoint where the bottom of her extended leg fell on the measure.
Daisy also went on nap strike today, refusing to do anything other than catnap on the way to her doctor's appointment. This was especially helpful today of all days because her nanny called in sick (we gave her the stomach flu) and Hubby and I had to tag-team taking care of her. It would sure have been nice if she could have taken some of those two hour naps in the morning and afternoon, as she was a few days ago, so we could have got some work done. Alas, it was not to be.
However, aside from being extremely lethargic and clearly not in good spirits this morning, she has been in a pretty good mood with decent amounts of energy, so we can't complain - it's not as if she's been screaming her head off all day or behaving like a cranky pants. She even managed to bust-out her longest walk yet - about 12ft across the living room floor!
Overall, she's a pretty resilient baby, smiling and playing whenever she can muster the energy, and we're very lucky. It's just so sad to see her devoid of some of that joyful rambunctiousness as she battles this flu. Let's hope we're nearing the end.
